Výstava „American Photography“ prezentuje okolo 200 fotografií od 33 významných amerických fotografů a prostřednictvím jejich fotografií charakterizuje Ameriku v období od 30. let minulého století až do začátku nového tisíciletí. Přehlídka v muzeu ALBERTINA obsahuje díla slavných „klasiků“ jakými jsou například Ansel Adams, Diana Arbus nebo Richard Avedon, i nekonvenční práce fotografky Nan Goldin nebo Davida La Chapelle.

Výstava přibližuje hlavní proudy, které významně ovlivnily světovou fotografickou tvorbu. Zastoupena jsou nejrůznější témata i styly práce. K vidění jsou dobové dokumenty z různých etap historie, momentky z amerického života, včetně sociálních studií a nepovedených realizací amerického snu. Jsou tu ale i portréty nebo barevné snímky charakteristické pro tzv. „konzumní kulturu“.

Vystavené fotografie čerpají ze sbírkových fondů muzea Albertina, které doplňují práce ze soukromé sbírky Trevora Traina – sběratele, který určitou dobu působil jako velvyslanec ve Vídni a je majitelem jedné z největších fotografických sbírek na světě.

Summary
The exhibition “American Photography” presents about 200 photographs by 33 prominent American photographers and uses their photographs to characterize America in the period from the 1930s to the beginning of the new millennium.
The show introduces the main streams that have significantly influenced the world photography. Various topics and styles of work are represented. You can see documentary photographs of American life, including social studies and unsuccessful realizations of the American dream, as well as impressive portraits or brilliant color images of the so-called “consumer culture”.
The majority of the exhibited photographs come from the the collections of the Museum Albertina, supplemented by pictures from the private collection of Trevor Train – former US-ambassador to Vienna and the owner of one of the world largest photographic collections.
The exhibition in the ALBERTINA Museum can be seen from August 24 to November 28, 2021.
